Since patients have a very delicate mucosa, they also need gentle remedies:

The toothbrush is soft so as not to physically injure the gums, mucous membranes and tooth enamel. With diabetes, it is often difficult to heal wounds, therefore, in order to avoid injury to the gums, the bristles should be soft, thick, without additional silicone or rubber inserts. For example, we recommend toothbrushes Curaprox 5460, Vitis.

Toothpaste is non-irritating, preferably without lauryl sulfate, without abrasive substances and without peroxides (non-bleaching). Often such pastes are produced for children. For example, we recommend toothpastes Curaprox Zero, Weleda.

Rinse aid - so that it does not have a strong taste, does not contain alcohol.

It is important that the paste and rinse aid for daily use do not contain chemical antibacterial components (thymol, triclosan, chlorhexidine). Since there is a likely risk of destroying not only harmful, but also beneficial microbes, which can lead to a violation of the microflora of the oral cavity, which will aggravate problems with mucous membranes.

Try to rinse your mouth with clean water after each meal. You can chew sugar-free gum with xylitol for 5 minutes.

If you have to eat something at night to increase sugar levels, it is better to give preference to products that do not stick to your teeth and are not in your mouth for a long time. For example, milk or juice through a straw. Or, without chewing, swallow pieces of banana. And then rinse and wash down with clean water.

If the patient uses removable dentures or removable orthodontic plates, then they must be removed after each meal and washed, and the mouth rinsed. Brush them every day before going to bed and clean them with special tablets to remove food residues and disinfect. You can read about the care of removable orthodontic plates below in the post in the feed.

If the prosthesis or plate is rubbed or causes discomfort, then it is necessary to consult a dentist unscheduled for correction, in order to avoid injury to the mucous membrane and the appearance of ulcers.

If there is a need to use antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory pastes, or rinses, for example, with chlohexidine or thymol, then they should be used no longer than two weeks.

It is highly recommended to use dental floss, brushes and an irrigator! Every day, after brushing your teeth before going to bed!

And, of course, smoking cessation is recommended.

If there are feelings of dryness of the oral cavity, it is recommended to use special products: toothpastes, rinses, gels, moisturizers, brands such as, for example, Dentaid Xerox, Xerostom, XeroLacer and others.
